2015 KTP Awards

Keep the Promise Coalition (KTP) is a Connecticut Coalition of advocates (people living with mental illness, family members, mental health professionals and interested community members) dedicated to ensuring that a comprehensive, community mental health system is created and sustained across the lifespan (children, adolescents, emerging adults, adults, older adults and families in Connecticut).

Keep the Promise Coalition was formed in 1999 by people living with mental illness, family members, providers and other advocates in response to the “broken promise” to invest in community mental health services and supports in Connecticut.

The state’s promise to build a comprehensive, community mental health system has not been kept forcing many people with mental illness into expensive settings such as emergency rooms, jails/prisons, homelessness, and institutional care.

KTP advocates for spending money smarter by focusing on cost effective, preventative, early intervention and community mental health services, supports and housing. Spending money smarter on proven solutions saves lives and taxes!

KTP’s Mental Health Resource Binder

On December 6, 2016, Keep the Promise (KTP) Coalition, Connecticut’s largest group of key stakeholders advocating for smart policy reforms and systems change to benefit people impacted by mental health conditions, and the Office of the Healthcare Advocate (OHA) once again held a two-hour information session on mental health issues for newly elected and re-elected legislators and their staff. The first successful Mental Health forum for newly elected legislators was held on December 10, 2014.

This information session presented legislators with the unique opportunity to gain valuable up-to-date knowledge on important mental health issues facing the state as they prepare for the upcoming 2017 legislative session. All current Connecticut legislators and their staff, and media were invited to attend this session.

Central to the event was our second edition of KTP’s Mental Health Resource Binder, comprised of 35 fact sheets on important mental health issues, including Mental Health Parity, Early Identification and Intervention, Supportive Housing, Debunking Myths Concerning Mental Health Conditions and Violence, and Well-Being and Mental Health.
